The Office Interiors Wanderers season came to an end this evening, as they fell on the short side of a 1-0 scoreline to the Picaroons Reds in the McCain NBPSL Challenge Cup final.
Ken Morrison struck the winner for the Reds, on a free-kick from 25 yards out in the opening 12 minutes of the game. The shot, which eluded the wall, dropped just inside the left post corner past keeper Marc Gagnon. The Wanderers stormed back with their best first-half only a few minutes later as Mike Corby raced down the right wing and crossed the ball to Colin McIsaac who narrowly headed it over the Reds crossbar.
The Wanderers came out strong in the second half, gaining more of the play from the Reds, and were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty kick in the 60th minute as the ball bounced of the arm of Reds defender Jason Rouse. Colin McIsaac stepped up to take the kick and was saved on an excellent effort from an outstretched Adam Grant. The save turned out to be the “game saver” for the Reds, as both teams exchanged some very good chances in the closing half-hour of play.
